Beer of the Week – come in for your FREE BEER!

This week our feature beer is the Tripel Karmeleit – known as the three grain beer with character.  This beer is produced at the Bosteels Brewery about 50 km northwest of Brussels, Belgium.  The Bosteels Brewery also products Kwak which is served in one of the most unique beer glasses you will ever meet (more on Kwak next week).

The first thing most notice about Tripel Karmeliet is the beautiful bottle.  Look a little closer and you will see the alcohol content is a whopping 8.4% so hold on to your hats.  The beer is a creamy honey colour with a slightly sweet smell.  The taste is suprisingly light given the alcohol content and most will notice the hint of peppery flavour.  It is a refrehsing crisp beer that would be perfectly accompanied by Waterzooi, a rich stew of chicken, vegetables, cream and eggs from the Ghent region.

To find out more about the Bosteels Brewery visit their website.

Remember if you are an IESEGSMM student you will receive a 20% discount on your bill.

Beer of the Week – Come in for your FREE BEER!

This week we are featuring Orval.  But firstly, did you know that every Belgian Beer has it’s very own glass.  This can become very challenging when you stock over 200 beers like we do at the Belgian Beer Cafe Wollongong!

Orval is brewed at the Orval Cistercian Trappist Abbey in Orval, Belgium right near the border with Luxembourg.  The monestary also produces cheese which is great accompaniement.

Orval Cheese

Orval is a Belgian Pale Ale with a creamy consistency and orange, spicy flavour.  Like many of the Belgian beers its retains a head throughout the glass.  6.9% alcohol level so a ‘lighter’ Belgian Beer (that can go up to 12 or 13%!).  The beautiful Orval glass, designed in the 1930’s compliments the beer both in looks and style.

Orval can be left to mature and develops with age.  An aged bottle of Orval and Cheese sounds like a nice way to finish off your meal at the Belgian Beer Cafe Wollongong.

To find out more about Orval visit their website.

Beer of the Week – Come in for your FREE BEER!

This week we are featuring Leffe Blonde

When we lived in the far North of France this is the beer that my husband loved the most (and he tried a fair few!).  Originally brewed by the Leffe Abbey over two hundred years ago, the brand was resurrected in the    1950’s and is now brewed at the Artois brewery in Leuven, Belgium.

But enough about that – what about the taste!

Leffe Blonde is a full bodied ale at 6.6% ABV so it packs a punch compared to most Australian domestic beers.  It has a slightly sweet flavour that is often present in Belgian beers and the thick head and lacing down the inside of the glass remained.  This brew has a creamy consistency with medium body and carbonation.

Free 7 oz samples will be available at the cafe this week (one free sample per customer)

For more information on Leffe visit the brewery website

Menu Suggestion to accompany your Leffe Blonde brew

Les Moules Frites

Next Week’s Feature Beer: Orval
